Like all AASG 0991 courses, this semester you will use the basic principles of rhetoric to explore academic writing practices across a range of disciplines. Your focus in this exploration will be both on analyzing a variety of writing techniques and on practicing incorporating those techniques into your writing. The primary goal of this course is to establish foundational writing skills that will serve you well in English 1221: Writing Seminar and beyond, including approaching writing as a recursive process, incorporating source material into your writing accurately and effectively, identifying and implementing effective strategies into your writing, and assessing your own writing and the writing of others. While some assignments may help you practice genres you will encounter in other courses, our primary focus will be on developing analytic skills that you will find useful in preparing you to produce successful writing in any context.
